TCTSY - An Adjunctive Treatment for PTSD, C-PTSD, & Complex Trauma, utilized with children, youth, and adults around the world. TCTSY is open to all people regardless of age, gender identity, race, ethnicity, body type and physical ability.
Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga is an empirically validated, adjunctive treatment for complex trauma. TCTSY was originally developed at the Trauma Center at JRI in Brookline, Massachusetts, USA, by David Emerson in clinical consultation with JRI clinical staff including Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, yoga teachers, and TCTSY participants. TCTSY continues to be researched and co-designed and is now the key program of the Center for Trauma and Embodiment at JRI where David Emerson and Jenn Turner are Directors.
In 2016, TCTSY became the first yoga model recognized by US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administrations as an adjunctive treatment for trauma, listed as, a psychosocial group intervention for adults affected by traumatic stress, which incorporates yoga principles and practices. TCTSY aims to support emotion regulation, stabilisation, and skill building for adults with chronic, treatment-resistant post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); complex PTSD; dissociative disorders; and other related emotional and behavioural problems.
TCTSY has foundations in Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory, Neuroscience and Hatha Yoga practice, with an emphasis on mindful body-based yoga forms and breathing practices. TCTSY reduces the symptoms of complex trauma and PTSD. To be a TCTSY Facilitator successful completion of a 300hr TCTSY Certification is required. To use trauma-aware or trauma-sensitive yoga training is highly recommended - TCTSY offer various training opportunities HERE
